Arsenal signs goalkeeper Meslier from Leeds
With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Tommy Setford reportedly set for moves away from Arsenal, the Premier League champion has signed Illan Meslier from Leeds United.
The 26-year-old joins the Gunners on a free transfer after seven seasons with Leeds, and has reportedly signed a two-year deal.
Meslier's signing is set to allow Setford to leave on loan as the Frenchman will reportedly be Mikel Arteta's third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Arrizabalaga, but the latter could also leave this transfer window.
Meslier has plenty of Premier League experience, making 107 appearances in the English top-flight and keeping 21 clean sheets for Leeds.
Overall, he kept 70 clean sheets in 215 matches for Leeds, achieving promotion twice from the EFL Championship during his time at the Whites.
"I’m extremely happy. It's a great day for me because I have just joined the champions. For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England," Meslier said.
"I'm very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I've got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, becuase this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again."
Arsenal faces Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on 17 August (AEST) before kicking off its Premier League title defence at home against newly-promoted Coventry City five days later.
