Chelsea recalls Anselmino from Dortmund loan
Borussia Dortmund confirmed that Aaron Anselmino will immediately return to Chelsea after the Premier League side ended his loan spell.
Anselmino was set to spend the entire 2025-2026 campaign with Dortmund, but the Blues have recalled the centre-back amid their defensive problems.
Injuries have plagued the centre of Chelsea's defence this season, with Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana both sidelined on multiple occasions, while Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in pre-season.
The Blues have been linked with Rennes youngster Jeremy Jacquet in the January transfer window, but they reportedly face competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich to sign the defender.
Dortmund released a statement that read: "Centre-back Aaron Anselmino is leaving Borussia Dortmund and immediately returning to Chelsea.
"The Premier League club activated a clause on Sunday evening, prematurely ending the defender's loan, which was originally set to run until June 30, 2026.
"The 20-year-old made ten competitive appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring one goal. The club deeply regrets Aaron Anselmino's sudden departure and thanks him for his commitment over the past few months.
"BVB wishes the Argentinian all the best for his future."
Anselmino made just 10 appearances for Dortmund after suffering muscle injuries of his own this term, but the 20 year-old impressed when he did feature.
In his six Bundesliga matches, Anselmino won 100 percent of his tackles (nine) and 55 percent of his duels, with his lone goal coming in a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
