Vini pounces to send Sevilla into the danger zone
Vinicius Junior scored the only goal as Real Madrid plunged Sevilla into further relegation trouble thanks to a 1-0 win at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
After results elsewhere in the division, Sevilla, which had been on a three-game winning run, is just three points above the bottom three, with as many as seven teams facing relegation on the final day.
Sevilla did start brightly and forced Thibaut Courtois into an early save through Oso, but Alvaro Abeloa's side went in front against the run of play in the 15th minute.
Brahim Diaz's cross into the box was taken down by Kylian Mbappe, who turned the ball back for Vinicius to slot into the bottom-right corner, though the Sevilla players felt Jose Angel Carmona had been fouled in the build-up by the Madrid number 10.
Mbappe sent a curling attempt narrowly wide as Los Blancos ended the half in the ascendency, with Aurelien Tchouameni seeing his effort blocked early in the second half.
Madrid continued to push for a nerve-settling second but Mbappe lashed over the crossbar in the 68th minute before Franco Mastantuono's shot cannoned against the post.
Jude Bellingham then slipped in Mbappe, who rounded Odysseas Vlachodimos to score, only for the offside flag to deny the Frenchman, and despite Sevilla's late effort, which saw Kike Salas sting the palms of Courtois, Madrid held on for all thee points.
