Mason sees red after West Brom drops points
West Bromwich Albion dropped its first points of the new EFL Championship season after a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth at The Hawthorns as manager Ryan Mason was sent off for his reaction to the equaliser.
Michael Johnston put the Baggies into the lead on 26 minutes, and the hosts stayed in front up to half-time.
But Colby Bishop was on hand to fire home for Pompey on 56 minutes to earn a share of the spoils for the visitors, who are now 11th on the table with West Brom slipping to fourth.
The equaliser was so frustrating for Baggies boss Mason than he was sent to the stands by the officials, and not available to speak after the game.
The hosts were also frustrated at being denied what they thought was a penalty later in the match.
Albion鈥檚 assistant head coach Nigel Gibbs fronted the press in his place, and tried to put a positive spin on things.
"We got ourselves in front and I thought we were dominating possession. We had some good moments in the final third, but couldn鈥檛 quite find that moment to give us another goal," he said.
"We felt there was a penalty in the second half which would have given us an advantage if we'd have managed to score from that, but we鈥檙e really pleased with the performance and with the effort the lads put in.
"We kept going at the end and we were the team pushing to get the winner. We鈥檙e a little bit frustrated that we couldn鈥檛 create more chances.
"The players are disappointed because we felt we should鈥檝e had a penalty. We had long spells with the ball, dominated it and created some good chances, but we feel like we could鈥檝e done a little bit better in the final third.
"At the end the crowd were right behind us and you could feel that. The fans were terrific.
"The subs gave us another impetus when they came on. We pushed and pushed, but we just couldn鈥檛 find that winner.
"At home we wanted the three points, but we鈥檒l have to settle for one."
