Kane nets hat-trick as Bayern collects its trophy
A Harry Kane hat-trick helped Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich cap its campaign with a thumping 5-1 victory over FC Koln at Allianz Arena.
Despite having wrapped up the title a long time ago, Bayern ensured it concluded the league season with a bang, with Tom Bischof and Nicolas Jackson also getting on the scoresheet.
It took just 10 minutes for Kane to break the deadlock; Konrad Laimer curled a lovely cross in from the right, and Joshua Kimmich helped it on to the boot of the England captain, who volleyed past Marvin Schwabe from close range.
Barely three minutes later, Kane scored his second. A free-kick on the edge of the D was played short by Kimmich, and Kane curled his first-time shot through the crowd and into the net.
However, Koln quickly got back into the game in the 18th minute, as Said El Mala won possession deep in his own half before bursting forward, leaving the Bayern defenders in his wake to slot a low shot across goal.
Bischof restored Bayern's two-goal cushion just four minutes later in a lightning-quick first quarter of the match. The youngster ran on to a loose ball on the edge of the box, and picked out the bottom-left corner with a pinpoint effort.
Bayern continued to push, with Jamal Musiala and Lennart Karl hitting the woodwork, and Kane got his hat-trick 69 minutes in with a long-range drive giving Schwabe no chance.
Jackson wrapped up the scoring with seven minutes to go, sorting out his feet quickly to coolly finish off Luis Diaz's pass.
Kane's hat-trick on Saturday took him to 36 goals for the campaign, more than any other player in the German top flight.
He scored more than 20 braces and 11 hat-tricks, again finishing as the league's top scorer.
"It was a fantastic way to end the Bundesliga season," Kane said.
"Another really good game from us with lots of goals. Now we just have to enjoy the celebrations, because the season is long and tough. Finishing like this is obviously the perfect way to do it. A lot of things have come together for us.
"That's exactly what makes us a team. We always want to play forward, press high, win the ball back quickly, and score as many goals as possible.
"That comes from our mentality and the way we train. No matter who we're playing against or what the situation is – we always want to perform the same way, and we showed that again."
Bayern closed out the campaign having lost just one game, doing so for the third time in the club's history, after 2012-2013 and 1986-1987.
The Bavarian side, which can win the double with a DfB Pokal final win against Stuttgart next week, finished the season on 89 points from 34 games and a record-breaking 122 goals, surpassing the previous league record of 101 it set in 1971-1972.
Michael Olise was crowned the league's player of the season, with the France international scoring 15 goals and delivering 19 assists in the league.
"It has been incredible to be honest," Olise said before being showered with beer by his team-mates.
"We had a good season. I think we improved from last season. I am just proud to be part of the team."
Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka, who will leave after eight seasons at the club, lifted the trophy aloft to trigger what will be two days of celebrations, after being handed the honour by captain Manuel Neuer.
The midfielder has made 311 appearances for Bayern since joining it from Schalke in 2018, scoring 51 goals, providing 44 assists and winning 16 trophies.
"The special moment for me was when I stood at the South Stand, spoke to the fans, and they gave me something extra," Goretzka said.
"That simply showed me that I was and am part of the family here. I'm simply proud of that."
Neuer, who signed a contract extension before the final match and could be a surprise addition to Germany's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, was taken off on the hour protectively with a minor calf problem.
Bayern will also have a title party with fans in central Munich on Monday (AEST).
