Sayer at the double as Matildas thump Argentina
Sweden-based attacker Amy Sayer scored a first half double as Australia defeated Argentina 4-1 at GIO Stadium in Canberra.
With incoming manager Joe Montemurro watching from the stands, the Matildas produced a fast start, 23 year-old Sayer opening the scoring in the 14th minute.
A defensive blunder allowed Argentina striker Kiki Denise Nunez to level the scores nine minutes later, before Sayer added her second just after the half-hour mark.
Emily van Egmond added a third for the Matildas midway through the second half to effectively kill off the contest, before veteran striker Michelle Hayman added a fourth in front of her home crowd to send retiring interim manager Tom Sermanni out a winner.
