Romanian third seed Simona Halep heads to the French Open looking to exceed her achievements at Roland Garros, after falling agonisingly short last year.
Halep out to better 2014 display
Simona Halep is hoping to go one step further at the French Open over the next two weeks.
Halep reached the final in Paris in 2014, only to lose to Russian star Maria Sharapova in straight sets at the clay-court grand slam.
The 23-year-old returns to the French capital wiser and confident as she draws on last years' experience to win her maiden grand slam.
"It is my favourite tournament and I feel great and ready to start the tournament," Halep told reporters.
"I have good memories from last year and played good tennis and now I hope to repeat that or be better.
"Last year is last year and now it is a new tournament and a new goal and new matches so I have to be focused on what I have to do this year.
"What I did last year gives me confidence that I can play good tennis again here but it doesn't mean anything at this moment.
"I have to try to be healthy and to be 100 per cent ready to start the tournament, every match is difficult and I have to take it day by day."
Halep will face Russian Evgeniya Rodina first up at Roland Garros.
"I am sure it will be very tough and everyone is playing well and wants to play good at a grand slam and we have only four per year," she added.
"I feel ready and confident and feel I can take my chances here but we will see."
