Tsonga sees off Simon to win third Moselle title
A battle of two-time Moselle Open winners finished with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga claiming a maiden ATP title of 2015.
Jo Wilfried-Tsonga avenged his defeat to Gilles Simon in the 2013 Moselle Open final by claiming victory in this year's showpiece on Sunday.
Tsonga emerged victorious from a frenetic encounter at the hard-court tournament in Metz to win 7-6 (7-5) 1-6 6-2 after two hours and 18 minutes.
The world number 17 racked up 15 aces and 46 winners to ensure his first ATP title of the 2015 season and his third Moselle Open success.
Tsonga overturned a 5-3 deficit in a tie-break to win the first set by rattling off four straight points.
However, Simon - a two-time winner of the tournament - responded in emphatic fashion by winning the next five straight games to take command of the second set.
World number 10 Simon served out the set with a hold to love after Tsonga had managed to get on the board, but he could not carry that momentum into the decider.
A break in the fourth game of the third set for Tsonga gave him the advantage, and he capitalised on another poor service game from Simon to wrap up the win.
