USOC confirms LA Olympics talks
Just weeks after Boston's bid fell through, Los Angeles is set to bid to host the 2024 Olympics.
Los Angeles could bid to host the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics after the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) confirmed talks.
Boston barely left the starting line in its bid for the 2024 Games but Los Angeles is ready to pick up the baton in a bid to believed to be worth $4billion.
USOC made its announcement on Wednesday after a board of directors meeting at the Denver International Airport.
"We continue to think that a U.S. bid for the 2024 Games can be successful," USOC chairman Larry Probst said.
"The board authorised CEO Scott Blackmun to work with Los Angeles to explore the viability of a potential bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"We hope to finalise terms that benefit both the city of Los Angeles and the Olympic Movement in the United States so that we can submit a world-class bid to the IOC by its September 15 deadline."
LA hosted the 1932 and 1984 Olympics and Wednesday's announcement came just over a fortnight after Boston's bid was scrapped.
