Portugal defeated Vietnam 2-0 Thursday in an encounter between two sides making their debuts at the World Cup.

First-half goals by Telma Encarnacao and Kika Nazareth ended Vietnam's hopes of going any further, whilst handing Portugal their first-ever win at the Women's World Cup.

With defending champions USA drawing with the Netherlands, it means that qualification is still up for grabs in Group E. The final games will see the USA take on Portugal and the Netherlands take on Vietnam.
