Premier League Preview – Newcastle United
Follow all the action from the Premier League exclusively with beIN SPORTS.
The summer so far…
After breaking into the top four last season, many fans had been dreaming of some marquee signings to underline Newcastle as a coming force in world football. In comparison, it’s been a summer of sensible signings on Tyneside. Despite huge financial backing, Newcastle are taking a slow and steady approach to the transfer market. Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali was the most expensive addition to the side coming in at £52 million from AC Milan. The dynamic midfielder will add some class to the hard-running ethos that has been put down by coach Eddie Howe.
Elsewhere and Harvey Barnes has been picked up from Leicester as a replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin who has moved on to Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League. Whilst youngster Tino Livramento has been brought in to add some competition at right back.
Player to watch…
Anthony Gordon will be one to keep an eye on for the Magpies. Fresh from winning the U21 European Championship the former Everton winger has been handed the number 10 shirt following the departure of Allan Saint-Maximin. At 22, Gordon has undoubted potential and has all the tools to become one of the very best English players of his generation. It will be interesting to see if the tricky winger can settle down at Newcastle
and start to deliver.
Kit Watch
In case you didn’t notice… The away kit is a subtle nod to their Saudi Arabian owners. 2.5/5
Predicted Finish – 5th
Slow and steady development at Newcastle will hit a roadblock this season, at least in the Premier League. Balancing the demands of the Champions League and Premier League will be tough on Eddie Howe and his squad. With Liverpool and Chelsea looking slightly stronger, we predict that the Magpies will miss out on the top four.
