Wenger: 90% certain his Arsenal squad will remain the same after January transfer window
Sanchez and Özil set to stay with the club in January according to the Arsenal boss
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has exclusively revealed to beIN SPORTS that he is 90% confident that his squad will be not changed during the January transfer window.
Speculation has been rife in recent weeks about the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil, who are set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. However, the Arsenal boss has again reinstated that the duo is not expected to move on in January.
Rumors have circulated in the last week that the club was set to announce a contract extension for Mesut Özil, however, the Gunners boss stressed that the players are still contracted to the club. “Sanchez and Ozil have a contract to June and that’s it”
Wenger also revealed that he will remain “faithful” to his current squad who are currently just a point outside the top four following their 1-0 win over Newcastle.
“90% with the same squad I do not imagine that we will change ten players in January, I believe we have to be absolutely faithful to the players we have at the moment if we can find some additions to strengthen our squad we will do it.”
Arsenal is set to play West Ham in the EFL Cup quarter-finals this evening, with plenty of changes expected to the side that defeated Newcastle. Wenger reaffirmed that he has plenty of quality in his squad to battle on all fronts. “We have a big squad, we have overall the players of the needed quality we need just maybe to stick together and fight as much as we can until the end of the season.”
