Portugal face Uzbekistan under pressure to deliver
Portugal will look to get their World Cup campaign back on track when they face Uzbekistan in Houston on Tuesday.
Roberto Martinez's side were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their opening Group K fixture, a result that left the Selecao with work to do heading into the second round of matches.
Joao Neves gave Portugal an early lead, but Yoane Wissa's equaliser ensured the points were shared after a frustrating evening for one of the tournament favourites.
The performance also prompted fresh scrutiny of Cristiano Ronaldo, who struggled to influence proceedings despite playing the full 90 minutes.
With Colombia opening their campaign with victory over Uzbekistan, Portugal know a win would leave them well placed ahead of a potentially decisive final group-stage meeting between the two sides.
Uzbekistan, meanwhile, remain in search of their first World Cup points after a 3-1 defeat to Colombia in their tournament debut.
Fabio Cannavaro's side found themselves under pressure for long periods but still managed to make history through Abbosbek Fayzullaev, whose second-half finish was the nation's first-ever World Cup goal.
Despite the defeat, Uzbekistan showed signs of improvement after the interval and will hope to carry that momentum into what is likely to be their toughest assignment of the group stage.
Portugal have never previously faced Uzbekistan, with Tuesday's contest marking the first meeting between the two nations.
Martinez could be boosted by the return of Ruben Dias after the defender missed the draw with DR Congo through injury, while Ronaldo is expected to retain his place despite criticism following the opening match.
Uzbekistan are unlikely to make sweeping changes after their defeat to Colombia, with captain Eldor Shomurodov again expected to lead the attack alongside goalscorer Fayzullaev.
Portugal predicted lineup:
Costa; Cancelo, Araujo, Veiga, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Fernandes; Silva, Neto, Ronaldo
Uzbekistan predicted lineup:
Yusupov; Khusanov, Abdullaev, Ashurmatov; Karimov, Mozgovoy, Shukurov, Nasrullaev; Fayzullaev, Urunov, Shomurodov
