Paris Saint-Germain Foundation pledges support for refugees
Foundation to make a long-term commitment alongside the UNHCR and French NGO Secours populaire français to run specific projects in France and abroad.
True to its fifteen-year commitment to helping underpriviledged children, the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation is currently mobilising its efforts to join in with the international display of solidarity for the refugee crisis.
The Foundation has in the past few days identified potential partners committed to working on projects to meet the essential needs of refugees (namely food, hygiene and clothing) and implement educative and sportive projects. After consultation with various charities, the Foundation has decided to team up with two of them, Secours populaire français and the UNHCR.
• Secours Populaire français has long been a partner of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation. It has created an emergency fund for refugees as part of its continuing fight against poverty and exclusion to which the Foundation will contribute. This fund is dedicated to provide moral, material and financiary support to this suffering population.
Julien Lauprêtre, President of Secours populaire français, declared: “We have already a long term relationship with the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, implementing numerous projects aiming to help the most vulnerable children in France. We are happy to extend this partnership today to respond to the emergency situation that migrants and refugees are facing. The support of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation will be very useful to develop concrete solidarity projects.”
• THE UNHCR is the branch of the UN which is dedicated to protecting refugees. It operates throughout the world to coordinate efforts to help refugees. The donation by the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation will go to a special fund focusing on helping children and families in France and abroad. The Foundation also plans to bring support in terms of skill patronage, sports equipment and awareness for the cause.
Through the voice of its French representative, Philipe Leclerc, the UNHCR expressed “all its gratitude to the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation and its President Nasser Al Khelaifi for this model commitment alongside the UNHCR aiming to help refugees on the long term and give them hope.”
The Foundation will assign a dedicated member of the team to oversee and evaluate these projects run in conjunction with these two organisations.
Christine Le Gal, President of the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, declared: “Today’s commitment in favour of the refugees goes in line with the work that we have conducted daily for 15 years in favour of underpriviledged children. While pursuing these actions, we are joining the fantastic solidarity movement that has raised in France and althrough the world. The Paris Saint-Germain Foundation takes up the challenge and teams up with two reknown organizations to act concretely on the ground for the refugees.”
