Australia opener Aaron Finch rued his side's inability to turn the screw on England after a 93-run defeat at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Playing his first international cricket since the World Cup final, Finch top-scored in Australia's innings with 53, though they were second best through much of their chase.

That was in no small part down to the performance of England spin duo, Moeen Ali (3-32) and Adil Rashid (2-41).

While happy to credit Yorkshire team-mate Rashid and Moeen's performances, Finch insisted Australia could have done more to knock the spinners off their stride.

He said: "I talked about yesterday, saying it was a nice place to get in and get a big score - none of us did that today.

"I put my hand up for that. I got a good start and got us into a good position and threw it away. 

"We knew that on that wicket, new batters coming in, it was always going to be tough. It was a poor display that none of us went on with it.

"The spinners played very well, but we probably didn't look to put them under enough pressure early in their spell. 

"When you're up with the run-rate and you're ticking along nicely, you think you can just continue on and chip away at the run-rate.

"They bowled exceptionally well, so that was probably a mis-step by us that we didn't look to take them on early in their spell and get them off length or get them off line and create bad balls.

"It probably allowed them to sit in and get into a nice rhythm."
