Geraint Jones, a player inextricably linked with the 2005 Ashes, has revealed he is set to retire - announcing his decision on the opening day of the 2015 Test series between England and Australia.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jones played 34 Tests between 2004 and 2006 - his most memorable contribution coming when he took a catch off Steve Harmison to dismiss Michael Kasprowicz and secure the most dramatic of two-run victories for England in the 2005 Edgbaston Test.

Now 38, Jones represents Gloucestershire in first-class cricket but has stepped down as captain and will bring an end to his career at the end of the 2015 season.

"Over the last few weeks I felt there were guys who needed an opportunity and my place in the team was potentially that opportunity," said Jones.

Ashley Giles, another member of England's victorious side 10 years ago, tweeted: "Congrats Jonah on a fantastic career, it was a pleasure playing with you. Particularly during that magic summer 2015."
