Iran end Palestine hopes
Palestine's quarter-final hopes were dashed by Iran, as China's impressive form continued at the FIBA Asia Championship.
Iran rebounded from their disappointing defeat to Philippines by reaching the FIBA Asia Championship quarter-finals with a 94-48 rout of Palestine, who exit the competition.
Defending champions Iran had little time to lick their wounds following Thursday's 87-73 defeat, but they showed their quality in the Group E contest in Changsha on Friday.
Asghar Kardoust was the star of the show. In just 18 minutes on court he made 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Hamed Haddadi, Mehdi Kamrani and Saeid Davarpanah all made double figures.
Defeat for Palestine means they miss out on the last eight, even though India were well beaten 99-65 by Group E winners Philippines.
Terrence Romeo's 20 points and four assists were key for Philippines, who showed their victory over Iran was no fluke.
Japan also made it out of the pool after beating Hong Kong 89-62. Makoto Hiejima, Joji Takeuchi, Kenta Hirose and Keijiro Matsui all made double figures for Japan.
In Group F, tournament hosts China remained undefeated in a comfortable 89-65 win over Qatar and head into the quarter-finals as pool winners.
Lebanon will also contest the last eight after ending a two-match losing streak to beat Jordan 80-76, with Amir Saoud impressing off the bench with 20 points.
Jordan's defeat means they miss out on the quarter-finals, South Korea rounded off the group's four qualifiers after beating Kazakhstan 79-63.
