Trailing 2-0, the Mets needed a victory at Citi Field and they delivered on Friday.
David Wright had four RBIs after going two-for-five as the Mets had 12 hits in front of their home fans.
Yordano Ventura only came through 3.1 innings for the Royals after conceding seven hits and five runs.
Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard was better, striking out six over six innings of work.
The Royals had seven hits, but they were undone by conceding four times in the sixth inning.
Kansas City had led early before Wright's two-run homer, only for the Royals to go 3-2 up in the second inning.
But Curtis Granderson smashed a two-run homer to right field to give the Mets a lead they would never relinquish.
Wright had a two-run single as part of the four-run sixth as his team closed out an important win.
Game four of the series is in New York on Saturday.
