Super League leaders Widnes Vikings eased to an emphatic 46-6 win over Hull FC thanks in part to a hat-trick from Stefan Marsh.

After Frank Pritchard opened the scoring for Hull, who have now lost three on the spin, the Vikings took complete command to make it five wins from six to start the campaign.

Hull had two tries disallowed before Joe Mellor finished off a fine attacking move at the other end.

Corey Thompson pounced on a pair of cross-field kicks to score twice in the space of eight minutes, with Marsh touching down for his first after Hull failed to deal with another high kick.

Rhys Hanbury was the beneficiary of some sloppy Hull defence, the full-back latching on to an offload for Widnes' fifth try and then adding the conversion to make it 24-6 at half-time.

The rout continued in the second 40 minutes, Kevin Brown and Matt Whitley crossing while Marsh added two more to send Widnes at least temporarily two points clear at the top.
