Marquez maintains Sachsenring form to claim pole
Defending world champion Marc Marquez produced a scintillating ride in qualifying at the German Grand Prix to claim pole with a record time.
Marc Marquez continued his fine form at the Sachsenring on Saturday - twice breaking his own lap record from 2014 to claim a sixth pole position in a row at the track.
The defending MotoGP world champion - who was edged out in dramatic fashion last time out in Assen by championship leader Valentino Rossi - produced a hot lap of one minute and 20.336 seconds ahead of Sunday's German Grand Prix.
Repsol Honda rider Marquez went fastest in all four practice sessions across Friday and Saturday and replicated that in Q2, setting a new lap record.
Competing alongside Q1's quickest pair Yonny Hernandez and Maverick Vinales, Marquez saw his pole position briefly threatened by Dani Pedrosa.
However, Marquez recovered to once again get in front and he will be joined by Pedrosa on the front row, with Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha) to start in third. Rossi is down in sixth.
Marquez has won his last five races at the German circuit, across all three classifications, and said afterwards: "The most important thing is the confidence with the bike is high.
"I always get good results here but I feel confident, which is most important. I'm happy with the work we did but [the race] is the most important."
