Marquez completes Sachsenring hat-trick
A faultless performance saw Marc Marquez claim a third MotoGP victory in as many years at the German Grand Prix.
Marc Marquez triumphed at the MotoGP German Grand Prix for the third straight year as the Repsol Honda man earned just his second victory of the season.
The double defending world champion has struggled to recreate his title-winning form so far in 2015, but Sunday's ride saw the Spaniard at his dominant best at Sachsenring.
Marquez began the day on pole and, after recovering from losing his lead to Jorge Lorenzo on the opening lap, he eventually cruised to a comfortable success, winning by over two seconds.
After back-to-back retirements in Italy and Catalunya, Marquez has now recorded second and first-place finishes in his latest two races to regain some ground on standings leader Valentino Rossi of Yamaha.
Marquez's Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa clinched his best result of the season by taking second, while Rossi was third, ahead of team-mate and title rival Jorge Lorenzo.
WHERE THE RACE WAS WON
After relinquishing his lead in the early stages of the race, Marquez soon returned to the front and had far too much pace for the remainder of the field to stay with him.
OFF TO A FLYER
Lorenzo leapt ahead of both Marquez and Pedrosa by the first corner, but he failed to hold onto his position as the Repsol Honda duo sealed a one-two finish.
HOT LAP
Marquez's 1:21.530 on the 10th lap helped him pull away from the rest of the field.
RACE TO FORGET
Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso was unhurt after a crash at turn six as he failed to finish for the third time in the past four races.
RACE STAT TO REMEMBER
Marquez has now won all three of his MotoGP races at Sachsenring, and taken victory on six successive occasions at the circuit across all classifications.
