Fenninger airlifted to hospital after training fall
The first race of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup could be missing the defending women's champion after Anna Fenninger fell in training.
Anna Fenninger has been airlifted to hospital after an accident on a training run, the Austrian Ski Federation (OSV) confirmed on Wednesday.
Fenninger reportedly sustained a knee injury while preparing for the new FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup season, which starts on Saturday with a giant slalom race in Solden on Saturday.
A statement on the OSV website read: "Anna Fenninger fell during today's [Wednesday] giant slalom in Solden. The Salzburg native was then flown by helicopter to Innsbruck.
"Further information will follow after an initial medical diagnosis."
Fenninger has won the last two overall World Cup titles and also emerged victorious in the giant slalom competition in 2014 and 2015 and the alpine combined discipline in the previous season.
The 26-year-old has three FIS Alpine Ski World Championships gold medals to her name, winning two at Beaver Creek earlier this year, and claimed gold in the super-G and silver in the giant slalom at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
