De Angelis scan shows 'intercranial bleeding'
Alex de Angelis is to undergo "neurosurgical evaluation" following his crash during practice at the Japanese MotoGP.
An MRI scan on E-Motion IodaRacing Team's Alex de Angelis has revealed "intercranial bleeding", MotoGP confirmed on Sunday.
The 31-year-old crashed between turns nine and 10 during FP4 at the Japanese MotoGP in Motegi and was airlifted to hospital, while the practice session was immediately red flagged.
De Angelis was conscious and breathing before leaving the track, but initial scans showed he has suffered a lung contusion, as well as several rib and vertebrae fractures.
The latest update on De Angelis' condition read: "MotoGP rider Alex de Angelis underwent further medical checks on Sunday morning at Dokkyo Medical University Hospital.
"An MRI was performed, showing an intracranial bleeding. However, this has to be better evaluated, and the rider will undergo a neurosurgical evaluation later on.
"Dr. Michele Zasa from Clinica Mobile is going to stay with the rider for the next few days, in order to follow the clinical evolution of the patient."
