Copa America quarterfinals between Mexico and Chile, Colombia and Peru sell out
Friday's quarterfinal and the late Saturday quarterfinal are sold out, with organizers hoping fans will arrive early to avoid traffic.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Tickets are no longer available for two of this weekend's Copa America Centenario quarterfinals, organizers announced Thursday.
Friday's quarterfinal between Colombia and Peru at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Saturday's game between Mexico and Chile in Santa Clara, California, are sold out.
After Mexico fans lined up hours before parking lots opened for El Tri's final group match against Venezuela, organizers hope more fans will plan in advance and utilize public transportation when possible.
"Fans with tickets are urged to arrive early for the 7 p.m. kickoff. Parking lots will open at 3 p.m., the Fan Plaza will open at 2:30 p.m., and stadium gates will open at 4:30 p.m.," organizers in Santa Clara said in a statement.
Levi's Stadium hosted the tournament opener, a match that drew an announced attendance of 67,439. Days later, 69,451 fans watched Argentina defeat Chile. A crowd of 40,166 was announced for Uruguay's defeat of Jamaica, a match between two teams eliminated from knockout play before the round.
Organizers said Thursday that while an official number is not available, they expect approximately 70,000 fans to attend. Wrestlemania 31 has the record attendance for the facility with 76,976. The NFL announced 71,088 as the attendance for Super Bowl 50, which took place at the stadium in February.
MetLife Stadium has hosted just one contest so far this tournament, drawing 50,976 fans for Ecuador's win over Haiti. In addition to the quarterfinal, it also will host the tournament final.
