Bulldogs dominate in Belmore homecoming
Melbourne Storm never came close to ruining the party as Canterbury Bulldogs enjoyed a winning return at Belmore Oval on Monday.
Canterbury Bulldogs enjoyed a happy homecoming at the Belmore Oval as they ran out comfortable 20-4 winners against Melbourne Storm in NRL.
A packed-out crowd of 16,764 turned out to see the Bulldogs return to their former home for the first time since 1998, and the hosts lived up to the occasion with a dominant performance.
Roared on by a jubilant support, Des Hasler's men were in cruise control thanks to a three-try blitz in the first 13 minutes, with prop David Klemmer at the heart of the action with a series of bulldozing runs.
The first try arrived in just the third minute when Brett Morris pounced on a clever grubber kick from Curtis Rona.
Four minutes later the home fans were on their feet in celebration again. The Bulldogs showed good patience at the line and worked the ball right, where Shaun Lane crashed over the line for his first NRL try.
The hosts continued to press and Melbourne failed to weather the storm as Sam Perrett dived over in the corner, with the television match official ruling that he was in play and had kept control when grounding the ball.
Storm, who lost Jordan McLean to a knee injury before the break, ended the opening half well, but the Bulldogs scored a fourth try six minutes after the restart.
Rona capitalised on a loose ball and picked out Sam Kasiano, His excellent looping pass found Josh Morris, who duly joined his brother Brett on the scoresheet.
The visitors were time after time running into some excellent Bulldogs defence, but finally scored a consolation with two minutes remaining when Marika Koroibete touched down in the left-hand corner.
It was too little too late for Craig Bellamy's men, though, as they slipped to a fifth straight loss against the Bulldogs and a third consecutive defeat in NRL.
