Senegal is back at the World Cup for the first time in 16 years, in only their second World Cup outing. The Lions Teranga will certainly be drawing inspiration from the class of 2002 who went all the way to the quarter-finals in their maiden World Cup appearance.
In manager Aliou Cissé they have the perfect man to take the side into Russia. Cissé captained the side that progressed so well back in 2002, and also oversaw an undefeated qualification campaign to Russia.
After enjoying a memorable season with Liverpool, Sadio Mane will be Senegal’s key player against Poland. The winger scored 20 goals in all competitions for the Reds this season and will be eager to take his goalscoring record to the World Cup. Providing Senegal have a slice of luck, Mane could be one of the stars of the tournament.
Senegal Predicted Team
Diallo; Sabaly, Koulibaly, Sane, Gassama; N'Diaye, Gueye; Balde, Sarr, Mane; Sakho
