A flight of less than an hour turned into another bizarre chapter in an increasingly frustrating season for the Minnesota Vikings.

The team's charter plane slid off the runway in snowy Appleton, Wisconsin, on Friday, and airport officials were unable to unload passengers for hours.

No one was hurt in the incident, according to Appleton Airport officials.

But plenty of people surely were antsy, even if the team's official accounted tweeted they were "waiting patiently to exit the plane".

That took longer than anyone could have expected.

Airport director Abe Weber told reporters a rear wheel on the plane came off on the taxiway en route to the gate, stranding the plane.

But it was not until about three hours later that media on the scene reported the team had begun to deplane.

Weber said the delay was due to the airport not having equipment on hand that would allow passengers to exit the Airbus A330 safely.

The Vikings (7-7) play the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.
