A late suspension in play because of lightning halted Medvedev's momentum after he brezzed through the first set, the Russian coughing up three doubles faults on the resumption in his final service game, effectively handing the match to the French lucky loser.
After a delay of an hour, Moutet returned to court to break Medvedev’s serve and seal his dramatic win with an epic match point after two hours and 25 minutes.
Medvedev served up 10 double faults across the match, gifting Moutet far too many opportunities to claim victory.
The win represents Moutet's fourth top 20 win on a hard court, and his first over Medvedev, coming in his maiden ATP Tour quarter-final above ATP 250 level.
