Fritz sealed his spot in his first ATP Tour final since November 2024 with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win, responding to a disappointing run on the clay courts with a solid run on the grass in Germany..
“The clay-court season wasn’t the best for me, so I came here more motivated to start the grass season off well,” Fritz said. “I’m super happy that I’ve been able to start it off with a final.
“I’m locked in and ready to go. Once I start winning a couple of matches on grass and start feeling good, all the other things start clicking for me.”
Fritz has three grass-court titles to his name already, all coming at Eastbourne in 2019, 2022 and 2024.
Zverev, meanwhile, is chasing his first and will need to better his head-to-head against Fritz if he's the break that duck. The German is 7-5 down against the American ahead of the showpiece in Stuttgart.
Fritz has won his past four meetings against Zverev, including in the semi-finals at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin last year, which was where the 27-year-old American reached his most recent final.
