Faroe Islands stuns Czechia in qualifier
Czechia's hopes of qualifying for next year's FIFA World Cup took a hit as it suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Faroe Islands.
Faroe Islands is ranked No.136 in the world but is now just one point behind Czechia in Group L, keeping its hopes of at least reaching the play-offs alive.
Hanus Sorensen gave the hosts the lead in the 67th minute with a fine strike, but they were pegged back by substitute Adam Karabec 11 minutes later.
However, within three minutes, Martin Agnarsson took advantage of some terrible Czechia defending to score an 81st-minute winner.
In order to finish second in the group, Faroe Islands will travel to Croatia for a final group game in November, needing a win, while hoping Czechia fails to beat Gibraltar, which has yet to earn a point in qualifying.
Faroe Islands has won its past three matches, and has now won four FIFA World Cup qualifiers in its group, having never won more than two in any qualification campaigns before.
