Kevin de Bruyne scored a sensational double as Belgium beat Turkiye 3-0 in their UEFA Nations League, Romelu Lukaku scoring the Red Devils' third after coming on as a late substitute.
Napoli midfielder De Bruyne put the hosts ahead in the 10th minute with a fine drive from distance after a one-two with Dodi Lukebakio.
Lukebakio twice hit the post thereafter, but De Bruyne found the back of the net with an even more spectacular strike on the hour, firing an emphatic shot into the top corner from edge of the box after another Belgium surge into the heart of Turkiye's defence.
Lukaku replaced Lukebakio and wrapped up the win 14 minutes from time with his 94th international goal, converting from Charles De Ketelaere's low centre with ease, while Belgium also managed to hold on to its clean sheet despite late pressure from Turkiye.
France leads Group A1 on seven points, one ahead of Belgium.
Italy, which is improving with every game under new boss Roberto Mancini, is on four points with Turkiye yet to get off the mark.
De Bruyne said after the match he felt he still had plenty to give at international level.
"I try to lead by example for the younger players, and they follow easily," De Bruyne said.
"I feel I can still contribute. I am enjoying myself, and that is the main thing."
Belgium captain Youri Tielemans said winning was the most important thing for the Red Devils, especially at home.
"It was an open game, but we took our chances and could have scored even more," he added.
"They played very openly, leaving a lot of space in midfield. In the final third, we still need to make better decisions."
Belgium's final game of the international break comes away to France on Tuesday (AEDT), and a win would see Van Bommel's side go top of Group A1 in the UEFA Nations League.
