Postecoglou cracks some jokes as Spurs celebrate
Ange Postecoglou was in fine form as Tottenham Hotspur celebrated its UEFA Europa League triumph by parading the trophy through north London atop an open-top bus.
Spurs beat Manchester United in the final in midweek, winning 1-0 in Bilbao and making Postecoglou the first Australian coach in history to lift a European trophy.
And Postecoglou promised Tottenham supporters that next season will be better.
Brennan Johnson's scruffy goal in Bilbao was enough for Spurs to see off United 1-0 in the final.
It brough Spurs a first trophy since 2008, and has delivered a place in next season's UEFA Champions League as well.
Whether or not Postecoglou, who has been under pressure after a poor Premier League campaign, will be in place to oversee the team remains to be seen.
Spurs head into its final-day league clash with Brighton and Hove Albion in 17th place in the Premier League, and the highest they can finish is 14th.
They have lost 21 league matches this season, but Postecoglou vowed next campaign will be better if he is in charge.
"I told them and they laughed. I told them and they didn't believe. And here we are," Postecoglou told the crowd during Spurs' trophy parade.
"I'll leave you with this: all the best television series, season three is better than season two."
Postecoglou invited scrutiny earlier in the campaign when he insisted he "always" wins trophies in his second season at a club.
Brighton, meanwhile, heads into Monday's (AEST) match knowing a victory would ensure it finishes eighth, which would be enough for it to qualify for Europe.
One player who may not be involved in a European adventure for the Seagulls is Joao Pedro, who has been linked with a move away.
Joao Pedro was also left out of the Brighton squad for last week's win over Liverpool because of a training ground incident.
The club's joint-leading scorer in the league will not feature against Spurs.
Fabian Hurzeler said: "With Joao, we had a small issue in training, a type which isn’t uncommon from time to time at all football clubs. We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed.
"Joao is an incredible football player, he is a match-winner for us and he is a great player and that’s why we invested in him.
"But there are principles, there are values that are non-negotiable that count for everyone. I don’t make any compromises."
