The defender put the ball in his own net, and was substituted off, in a hectic opening 20-minute period at Estadio Do Dragao after William Gomes put Porto ahead in a game where they were frustrated by Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

The host side almost went ahead after 45 seconds, but both Terem Moffi and Borja Sainz were denied in quick succession by Ortega, who held onto another shot from Sainz minutes later.

Porto eventually scored the opener after 11 minutes. Pablo Rosario held off a challenge from Zach Abbott before playing Gabri Veiga in behind, and the Spaniard's centre across the face of goal was tapped in at the back post by William.

However, Forest was back on level terms two minutes later as Fernandes' powerful back pass was beyond the reach of goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who watched the ball roll into an unguarded net.

Ortega was called upon again before the break, keeping out Moffi and Seko Fofana, while Igor Jesus saw a goal disallowed following a VAR review shortly after the hour mark due to a foul in the build-up on Costa.

William went close to scoring a second, but was kept out by a brilliant diving save by Ortega, who also made another save late on to keep out a tame effort from Alan Varela as Porto were forced to settle for a draw.
