Hakimi plays down PSG's favourite tag
Achraf Hakimi played down his Paris Saint-Germain team being the favourite heading into the second leg of its UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
PSG has a two-goal lead after its 2-0 win in the French capital last week, with Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on target for the defending champion.
Luis Enrique's side arrive on Merseyside with not only confidence, but fresh legs too, having seen its Kigue 1 match against Lens last weekend postponed because of its European commitments.
PSG won 1-0 at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 last season. The only sides to win consecutive away games against Liverpool in European competition are Barcelona and Atalanta, with neither of those doing so in back-to-back campaigns.
While the Parisien side is the overwhelming favourite to progress, Hakimi insisted that his team-mates must be at their best to ensure the job gets done.
"In this type of competition, there is no such thing as favourites. We've already seen it is possible for a team to come back even from 2-0 down," Hakimi said.
"We are in a very positive mindset having said that. We have a lot of confidence at the moment and I think tomorrow is a really important game for us.
"We are going to be very focused, and I also think we are going to have to take care of the details; every single last detail.
"We are prepared to give absolutely everything, as are Liverpool. Both teams will be going for it.
"We don't feel superior to everyone, far from it. The important thing is to enjoy ourselves when we play together.
"We have the same objectives and goals. We want to win for the club, for our team. It's fantastic to be able to celebrate winning."
PSG coach Luis Enrique remains wary of the threat Arne Slot's Liverpool side poses.
"It was only the first game. We have to play the second game," Luis Enrique said.
"When you play in this competition and play away it's always tough. And you're playing a team at Liverpool's level as well.
"OK, they are trailing but it's still going to be difficult for us. We know there will be times when we experience difficulties playing against Liverpool."
