Ruthless Inter puts four past Union Saint-Gilloise
Inter continued its perfect start in the Champions League, cruising to a 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
Lautaro Martinez continued his impressive goalscoring run, while Francesco Pio Esposito also played his part in two of the goals at Lotto Park.
It could have been a very different story, with Yann Sommer having to make a smothering save to deny Promise David with just over two minutes on the clock, with Christian Burgess seeing his effort blocked on the line by Martinez moments later.
Inter settled into the game, though, and found its breakthrough 41 minutes in, with Denzel Dumfries rifling into the roof of the net from close range after meeting Yann Bisseck's nod down from a corner.
Just five minutes later, Martinez got their second, latching onto Pio Esposito's squared pass to guide a low finish past Kjell Scherpen and into the back of the net.
That goal took the sting out of USG, with Inter dominating in the second half, and it was gifted its chance for a third goal as Kevin Mac Allister handled the ball during a challenge with Martinez. Hakan Calhanoglu confidently converted from 12 yards.
Pio Esposito then missed a golden chance to add another, bundling his effort from the edge of the six-yard box wide of an empty net.
But he did get their fourth in the 76th minute, sending a lovely low finish through Fedde Leysen's legs to net his first Champions League goal.
