It looked like the game would belong to Harry Kane, who orchestrated the comeback after Eberechi Eze – an early replacement for the injured Bukayo Saka – opened the scoring.

Kane set up Alphonso Davies's equaliser before netting from the penalty spot, but Rice finished off a pacy move down Arsenal's right to take a share of the spoils.

Serge Gnabry had the first clear opening, with Kane launching a goal-kick over the top to Davies, who squared it into the middle. Ismael Saibari helped it onto Gnabry, who tamely shot at David Raya.

But it was Arsenal who broke the deadlock 25 minutes in, as Eze latched onto Martin Odegaard's wonderful pass to slot under Manuel Neuer into the bottom-right corner.

The lead lasted just 10 minutes, though, with Kane once again showing his range with a lovely throughball for Davies to chase, and he coolly curled past Raya while one-on-one.

It was a frenetic start to the second half, with Neuer making a point-blank save on his line to tip Bruno Guimaraes's header onto the crossbar, before Raya pushed away Dayot Upamecano's effort at the other end after a blistering counter-attack.

Eze almost got a second goal when he skipped through the left of the box before trying his luck from near the byline, but Neuer was once again equal to it.

Kane was then at the heart of Bayern's second goal in the 61st minute. His shot was blocked by Jurrien Timber's arm, and the former Tottenham man stepped up from 12 yards to emphatically finish past Raya.

Kai Havertz saw a poked effort blocked on the line before Luis Diaz's curler was well-saved by Raya, and that set Arsenal up to find their 82nd-minute equaliser as Rice raced onto Viktor Gyokeres' lay-off to drill into the bottom-left corner.

Timber, looking to make up for conceding the earlier penalty, could have won the game in the 91st minute, but Neuer got a strong hand behind the bending shot to keep it level.
