Athletic Club ends Qarabag's perfect start
Qarabag's faultless start in the Champions League was halted as Gorka Guruzeta and Robert Navarro scored in a 3-1 comeback victory for Athletic Club.
The Azerbaijani champion made a dream start to its third league-stage match as Leandro Andrade took advantage of a mix-up between centre-backs Aymeric Laporte and Aitor Paredes to slot home after just 48 seconds at San Mames.
But its lead would not last. Having already drawn one good save from Mateusz Kochalski, Guruzeta latched onto Mikel Jauregizar's pinpoint pass to fire home left-footed in the 38th minute.
Guruzeta was unable to turn home on the stretch from the final attack of the first half, but Athletic did inch ahead in the 70th minute, as Navarro curled a fabulous effort beyond Kochalski's dive from near the left corner of the box.
There was still time for Athletic to add a third, too, as Guruzeta brought down a bouncing ball before firing into the bottom-left corner from outside the area in the 88th minute.
While Athletic is up to three points after defeats to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, Qarabag has six after opening its campaign with wins over Benfica and Copenhagen.
Galatasaray also has six points on the board after a 3-1 home win over Bodo/Glimt, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice for the Istanbul giant, which beat Liverpool last time out.
Osimhen swept home first-time to give the host a third-minute lead, then intercepted Fredrik Bjorkan's mis-placed pass to score a simple second half an hour later.
Osimhen passed up a couple chances to get his hat-trick in the second half, but Yunus Akgun's close-range finish did put Galatasaray three to the good on the hour, rendering Andreas Helmersen's header a mere consolation.
