Arteta praises Arsenal level in Inter flogging
Mikel Arteta lauded Arsenal's "special performance" and says it "hit a new level" after they secured its spot in the last 16 with a 3-1 win over Inter at San Siro.
Gabriel Jesus scored twice, while Viktor Gyokeres also got on the scoresheet to ensure Arsenal's perfect start in the competition this season continued.
Arsenal has won seven successive Champions League games for the first time in its history; only Manchester City has enjoyed a longer winning run in the competition among English sides.
The Gunners have won all 11 of their group or league-stage games in Europe's premier competition since a 1-0 defeat to Inter in November 2024.
Arteta's side remains top of the standings, with 21 points, and the Spaniard was thrilled with the manner in which his side controlled the match.
"I'm very proud of the team. We said before the game, we needed a special performance, and we've certainly done that," Arteta said.
"We went to another level, and to do it at San Siro against one of the best teams in Europe is something else.
"It was about trying to be better than them. They manage and control the games in a very good way, and we knew we would have to do that on the pitch and with our subs."
Jesus has reached 10 goal involvements in the Champions League for Arsenal in 15 appearances, with only three players doing so in fewer games for the club.
Gyokeres, meanwhile, netted his third goal in the competition this season, with his clincher being Arsenal's sixth via a substitute in this season's Champions League, the joint-most along with PSV.
"There's an unbelievable player [Jesus], and the bigger the game, the more comfortable he plays," Arteta said. "He deserves the man of the match award.
"Great impact [from Gyokeres]. The game was taking a shape that fit him very much. He had two chances and put one away.
"For him, it's the second away game he's done very well, and he's finding some consistency."
Arsenal remains heavy favourite to lift both the Champions League and the Premier League trophies this season, while it also holds an advantage in its Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea and are through to the FA Cup fourth round.
"We have it in us [to win all four]," Myles Lewis-Skelly said. "We have the depth and the mentality to come here and win and put in a performance like this.
"We don't want to look at anyone else, but we have to control the controllables, and that's what we have to keep doing for the rest of the season.
"That's at the back of my mind. What takes care of itself will take care of itself. I've just got to keep playing well."
