Fenerbahce announces Lukaku signing
Fenerbahce announced the signing of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Napoli.
Earlier this week, reports suggested that Lukaku had been granted permission to undergo a medical with the Turkish Super Lig giants, after the clubs agreed a fee of around €6m.
Lukaku played a key role in Napoli's Scudetto-winning campaign under Antonio Conte in 2024-2025, scoring 14 goals in 38 matches that season.
However, he was restricted to just seven appearances – none of which were starts – in 2025-2026 due to a variety of injuries, only tallying 64 minutes in all competitions and scoring one goal.
Lukaku fared well at the World Cup, though, scoring three times and featuring in all six of Belgium's games as it reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to eventual champion Spain.
He will take his talents to Istanbul, with Fenerbahce hoping to go one better than the runner-up finish it managed last season.
Lukaku was deemed surplus to requirements by Napoli after they made Rasmus Hojlund's loan move from Manchester United permanent earlier in the transfer window, though reports suggest Chelsea is due a cut of the fee received for its former striker.
Napoli is also reportedly interested in signing Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal.
Lukaku is the latest big-name acquisition made by Fenerbahce ahead of the new season, which it hopes will bring a first appearance in the Champions League group stage proper since 2008-2009.
It has been drawn to face Lyon in the play-off round, with the first leg being staged in Turkiye next week, after Sunday's Super Lig opener at Genclerbirligi.
Mason Greenwood, Nathan Ake, Vedat Muriqi and Sidiki Cherif are among its other signings, with its spending estimated at around €70m during the current window.
