Vardy 'over the moon' after netting first Serie A goal
After four games in Serie A, Jamie Vardy got off the mark for Cremonese, scoring his first goal in a 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Saturday.
Jamie Vardy says he is "over the moon" to have scored his first goal for Cremonese in Serie A.
Vardy broke his goal drought since joining Cremonese by scoring their opener in a 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Saturday.
At 38 years and 287 days, Vardy became the oldest player to score for Cremonese in Serie A and the first Englishman to find the net for the Grigiorossi in the competition.
Vardy has struggled for chances in his four league appearances so far, but scored with his third shot in the Italian top flight, and his only attempt of the match.
"I'm over the moon to get my first goal, but taking the lead that late on, I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get the three points. Still, it's a step in the right direction," Vardy told Sky Sport Italia.
"I feel great. I look after myself, make sure I do all the right recovery and as close to 100% for each game as and when they come.
"If the manager wants me to play, then I'm all ready to go, and then that decision is up to the manager. I'm ready whenever."
Vardy spent 13 years at Leicester City before leaving the club in May and signing for Cremonese on a free transfer in September.
Ten of those seasons were played in the Premier League – which he won with the Foxes in 2015-16 – and Vardy noted the differences between the two divisions.
"It's more tactical and possession-based in Serie A, you get to the Premier League and it's all high intensity, fast paced, normally end-to-end," he said.
"Here, you have more time on the ball, you need to make sure you're in the right positions.
"At the end of the day, football is football; we just have to make sure we're on it 100% every week. It's 11 against 11 every week, anyone can beat anyone, so as long as we're fully on it, we know that we can pick up points no matter who we're playing."
