Serie A match in Australia up in the air, says Fabregas
Como manager Cesc Fabregas has claimed that as far as he knows, his side's planned visit to Perth, Australia, in February next year to play a Serie A match against AC Milan is still up in the air and may not go ahead.
Fabregas's comments come after a similar initiative by LaLiga to move a Barcelona match against Villarreal to Miami in the United States was dumped earlier this week after very public protests from players during last week's fixtures made headlines around the world.
“It’s not official yet. It’s possible we might not go,” the Spanish coach said.
“I confirm what I said three months ago: I work for this club, but I’ll never go against our fans. They are the most important part of football.
“There are people who lose sleep and spend part of their wages just to follow us to Lecce. They should always have priority - I completely understand their frustration.”
The match was initially moved abroad by Serie A because AC Milan's home ground, San Siro, is unavailable as preparations continue for the Winter Olympic Games.
