Fiorentina sacks Pioli after winless Serie A start
Fiorentina confirmed that it has sacked manager Stefano Pioli.
The manager was relieved of first-team duties on Tuesday, with Under-20s coach Daniele Galloppa appointed in the interim role.
The Viola are yet to win in Serie A this season after 10 games, leaving them bottom of the Italian top-flight on four points.
Fiorentina (D4, L6) has lost six of its first 10 Serie A games of the season for the third time in its history, after 1939-1940 (W3, D1, L6) and 2001/02 (W3, D1, L6).
It has also lost four of its first five Serie A home games of the season for only the second time in its history, the first since 1977/78 (D1, L4).
Pioli signed a three-year deal with the club in the summer, marking the start of his second spell with Fiorentina (also June 2017 – April 2019).
Having also managed Bologna, Chievo, Inter, Lazio, Milan and Parma in Serie A, this is the first time Pioli has failed to win a single league match during his time in charge of a club.
Galloppa will take charge of the Viola’s Conference League fixture against Mainz 05 on Friday, with the Italian side top of the league phase after two games.
