Strain goal delights United on Dundee derby day
Australia's Ryan Strain was on target to wrap up a big derby win for Dundee United at Tannadice, where Will Ferry bagged a double for Jim Goodwin's side to earn a 3-0 win over arch rival Dundee.
It was United's fourth straight win, something it hasn't achieved since 2014, and kept it safe in seventh place on the Scottish Premiership table.
Ferry was perhaps lucky with his first goal on 14 minutes, which went in off his knee after an effort United's other Australian, Zac Sapsford, had been deflected, but there was absolutely no doubt about his second, which flew inin off a post after Ferry fired from distance after a surging run forward with 20 minutes of the match remaining.
Two minutes after that, Ferry turned provider for Socceroos hopeful Strain, standing up a superb cross from the left which Strain guided home with his head.
"The all-round performance and the result is what matters most but I thought we thoroughly deserved the victory," United boss Goodwin said after the match.
"Great credit to the group, they made amends for the disappointment six weeks ago. I thought we were the better team in every area of the pitch and I was delighted to send our fans home happy.
"We want to finish this season on a positive note and we expect another four performances like that one today."
