Postecoglou aiming to break negative Spurs vibes
Ange Postecoglou wants to rewrite the "negative narrative" around Tottenham Hotspur this season, with a trip to West Ham United next up in the Premier League.
Spurs are 16th on the league table with 37 points, and have endured a three-match losing run in the league, which has seen the pressure pile on the Australian head coach once more.
However, the bright spark in their season has been the UEFA Europa League, and they recorded a 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their semi-final last week.
Postecoglou is hoping to put a positive spin on the mindset surrounding the club, among both fans and neutrals.
"I've said before, the narrative around the club is not positive at all," he said.
"Whether you follow the club or not, there's always some sort of negative connotations to everything that happens at the club, but that's existed for a very long time - you need to break through that.
"[Winners] don't think about what could possibly go wrong. They have a real clarity around what they need to do to win, and I'm trying to create that with this group of players.
"If you expect something to go wrong, it will. So, you try to rail against that, but how you do that is just a clear-eyed focus on what's important."
West Ham is one point and one place below Spurs on the table, with manager Graham Potter struggling to build any momentum since joining the club.
It is winless in its past seven matches in the Premier League, letting a 2-1 lead slip last time out against Brighton and Hove Albion, conceding in the final minute to lose 3-2 against Potter's former club.
"We need points and wins," he said. "We've done some things right, but not enough.
"It's hard now to talk too positively, but we just need a front-footed performance that shows who we are.
"We know we're in a bad moment results-wise, but I think the players have been honest, disappointed and frustrated, which I think is good, and they realise we have to stick together."
