Marmoush's stunner wins Premier League goal award
Omar Marmoush's remarkable strike against Bournemouth has been named as the Premier League's goal of the season.
The Manchester City forward's delightful effort at Etihad Stadium on 21 May (AEST) has claimed the 2024-2025 competition's prize, the league announced.
Marmoush received a simple pass from Mateo Kovacic before bursting forward and unleashing a wicked right-footed drive into the top-left corner, which kissed the post of Kepa Arrizabalaga's goal before going in.
The Egypt international beat off competition from Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Jhon Duran, Harry Wilson, Alexander Isak, David Brooks, Kaoru Mitoma, Carlos Baleba and Jens Cajuste.
That stunning finish saw Marmoush score his seventh Premier League goal, with all of them coming at the Etihad.
His run at home marks the joint-most goals a Manchester City player has scored in a campaign, with 100 per cent of them coming at home, along with Samir Nasri in 2013-2014.
The former Eintracht Frankfurt attacker scored three of his seven league goals for Pep Guardiola's side from outside the box, providing ample competition and support for fellow striker Erling Haaland.
His opener against Bournemouth also ended City’s run of 54 shots without a goal in all competitions, since Kevin De Bruyne’s strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in May.
However, Marmoush's long-range piledriver did not take away from a special occasion, as City waved farewell to De Bruyne with a 3-1 win that sent it on its way to UEFA Champions League qualification.
