Frank calls for 'calm heads' at Tottenham despite poor Premier League form
The pressure is still on Thomas Frank following his side's last-gasp 2-2 draw with Burnley, with the Dane calling for calm and composure.
Thomas Frank has urged his Tottenham squad to keep "calm heads" as they look to improve their fortunes following another dispiriting Premier League result.
Spurs extended their winless start to the year in the league with a 2-2 draw at Burnley, which they managed to rescue only thanks to a 90th-minute leveller from Cristian Romero.
Micky van de Ven had earlier put Spurs ahead, but Axel Tuanzebe swiftly equalised just before the break.
Lyle Foster thought he had secured all three points for the Clarets, turning in a scruffy effort 15 minutes from time, but it was Romero who had the final say as he powered home from Wilson Odobert's cross.
"I know [we're under pressure] but you can't say we didn’t do everything to win," Frank told BBC Match of the Day.
"We just need to keep improving. The only way it can be is calm heads, carry on and keep doing what we think is the right thing.
"You see the game today. We do more than enough to win the game, we just need to defend better in two situations. And, of course, score another goal that could make the difference at 1-0.
"It's very important to focus on the start of the game. And the first half is really good. We came here, on top of it, creating chances, 1-0 and could have scored a second one.
"Then it's important to focus on how strong we ended with that character to keep fighting. But we have to improve the bit in the middle."
Spurs were the dominant side for much of the contest, registering 11 shots on target – their most in a Premier League match since December 2023 (12 against Newcastle United), and their most in a match they failed to win since December 2021 (11 in a 1-1 draw with Southampton).
Frank lamented the goal conceded to Tuanzebe just before the break, adding: "It was a game we dominated and created chances, scoring a goal.
"Should have scored a second one. Then we are out of sight. But we should never, ever, ever concede that goal just before half-time."
Still, Frank could take encouragement from the performances of his two centre-backs, Van de Ven and Romero, both of whom played pivotal roles in the final third.
Indeed, Spurs have scored more headed goals (10) and had more goals scored via defenders (nine) than any other side in the league this season.
Burnley, meanwhile, remain winless across their last 14 Premier League games (D5 L9) – their longest run in the top-flight since between August and October 1970 (also 14).
"It's a disappointment. We did well to get ourselves in the game, especially with the first goal in the first half," Clarets goalscorer Foster said.
"Second half we were good as well, got the second goal and were unfortunate not to keep [the lead] and get three points.
"Overall, the dressing room is disappointed because I felt we could have taken all three points.
"Happy with the team performance but feel we should be getting more, and deserved more."
