El Khannouss: Relegated Leicester must 'give everything'
Leicester City and Southampton have both had dismal Premier League campaigns, and the relegated sides will meet on Saturday.
Bilal El Khannouss has urged his Leicester City team-mates to "give everything" as they aim for a positive end to a dismal season.
Leicester's relegation was confirmed in April, as they joined Southampton in going down.
Last week, it was Ipswich Town's turn to have their relegation confirmed, meaning all three promoted clubs will return to the Championship for just the third time in Premier League history, and the second time in consecutive campaigns.
Leicester and Southampton meet on Saturday, in a match that both teams will see as a great chance to get a rare win on the board.
And Foxes midfielder El Khannouss says Leicester have to give their all to end the season on something of a high note.
"Confidence makes a lot in football," he told Leicester's official media channels on the back of last week's defeat to Wolves.
"As a player, in the dressing room, it’s very important to have confidence.
"We have to give everything. We have to show the best face we can show because we have to show ourselves the best way possible, to give the best image of this club.
"We're going to give everything until the end.
"We didn’t show enough [against Wolves]. There are still a few games left to show ourselves. We have to do better."
After taking on Southampton, Leicester face Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Bournemouth.
Southampton's focus, meanwhile, will be on recovering from their last-gasp defeat to Fulham, as they aim to surpass 11 points.
Should they fail to do so before the season is out, then they will share the joint-record low points tally for a Premier League season with the Derby County team of 2007-08.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Leicester City - Jamie Vardy
Vardy, who will be leaving Leicester City at the end of the season, missed a penalty against Wolves last week.
The veteran forward is just two goals shy of scoring his 200th for the club, and that will surely be on his mind in the final weeks of the season.
Southampton - Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale has had quite the fall, from competing for the Premier League title with Arsenal to going down with Southampton.
The goalkeeper will likely be eager to secure himself a move back to the top flight next season, so he will be hoping to put himself in the shop window in the run-in.
Not that he has been helped by the defence in front of him, with Southampton having faced more shots (605), more shots on target (234) and have a higher expected goals against tally (78.8) than any other side in the Premier League this season.
MATCH PREDICTION: LEICESTER WIN
Defeat for Southampton will confirm them finishing bottom of the Premier League this season. It would be the third time they have finished last (also 2004-05 and 2022-23), the joint-most of any side in the competition (Sunderland in 2002-03, 2005-06 and 2016-17).
Southampton's 80 goals conceded this season is their most in a single league campaign since 1971-72 (also 80), while they last shipped more in 1967-68 (83).
Leicester have lost their last nine Premier League home games by an aggregate score of 22-0. The only team in English league history (top four tiers) to fail to score in 10 consecutive home games are Wolves between December 1984 and April 1985.
Southampton have lost their last three league games against Leicester – they have never lost four in a row against the Foxes before.
Following their 3-2 win at St Mary's in the reverse fixture, Leicester are looking to complete the Premier League double over Southampton for the first time since 1999-00.
