Redknapp slams Spurs stars for praise of Postecoglou
Former West Ham United coach Harry Redknapp criticised Tottenham Hotspur's stars for their gushing support of former Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked after winning the the UEFA Europa League, the first trophy for the club in 17 years.
While glory in Europe was a major achievement for Postecoglou and Spurs, the club finished 17th on the Premier League table, a woeful return as the three clubs below were all relegated to the EFL Championship.
Spurs stars from captain Son Heung-min to James Maddison were quick to post on their social media accounts in glowing terms about the Australian and his work with them at the club, but Redknapp says their words are meaningless.
Speaking at a Soccer Aid training session, Redknapp said: "That's football, that's what footballers do, 'Oh, we love the previous manager'.
"Well why didn't you try a bit harder? You might not have finished fourth from bottom. It's the same old message. The king is dead, long live the king. That's football.
"They all come out and say the manager was great and then the new manager comes and he'll great, then when he goes they're sorry to see him go.
"That's football, you mustn't take any notice of what they say."
Postecoglou's sacking has been controversial and has divided opinion across football circles, with many saying he should have been rewarded for the European triumph, while other suggest finishing 17th in the Premier League meant he had to go.
