Postecoglou's wait for first Forest win continues
In-form Jaidon Anthony found the net once again as Burnley battled back from a slow start to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest, prolonging Ange Postecoglou’s wait for a first win in charge of the visitors.
After defeats in his opening two matches, Postecoglou's side started brightly, as Neco Williams hammered Forest in front inside the second minute at Turf Moor.
But Anthony restored parity midway through the first half, pouncing for his third Premier League goal of the season after a goalmouth scramble, in what proved to be the final strike of the contest.
Loum Tchaouna rattled the bar with a free-kick for Burnley just before half-time.
After the break, it was Forest that looked the more likely winner, with substitute Igor Jesus drawing a fine stop from Martin Dubravka, who was called into action repeatedly as heavy rain poured down.
The result keeps Burnley just above the relegation zone on four points, one behind Forest, which has now gone winless since the opening weekend.
Stretching back to the end of his spell with Tottenham Hotspur last season, Postecoglou is now without a win in his past nine Premier League matches, collecting two draws and seven defeats.
That is the longest winless streak of his top-flight managerial career spanning spells in Australia, Japan, Scotland and England.
"It is always a tough game here," Postecoglou said. "I am really happy with certain parts, we controlled it well and their keeper pulled off some great saves.
"We lost a certain amount of control but disappointed we didn't take all three points. We had a couple of sloppy moments and it allowed them to get a bit of traction in the game. We still created enough chances to win the game.
"From seven days ago from when we played Arsenal, we look a different team and we saw elements of that on Wednesday night too. I am disappointed but, at the same time, the progress in our play is the most positive thing for me."
It is back to the Australian's favourite cup competition next as he looks to secure a first victory when Forest faces Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League, a competition which holds fond memories for Postecoglou, even if it was not enough to earn him an extended stay at Spurs.
"I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "It'll be great for this group of players.
"I have three years of experience in the Europa League. Last year went well but it'll be great for these players."
As for Forest, it is now without a victory in its past four Premier League matches, equalling the longest run without a victory for the club since April 2024.
