Alexander-Arnold completes Real Madrid move
Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed for Real Madrid from Liverpool ahead of next month's Club World Cup.
Alexander-Arnold previously confirmed he would be leaving Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.
It was widely expected he would be signing for Madrid, but rather than wait to bring in the full-back on a free transfer, Los Blancos have paid Liverpool a fee in order to get the 26-year-old on board ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, which starts on 15 June (AEST).
Madrid has reportedly paid €10 million ($17.6 million) for the England international, who becomes the second signing for new boss Xabi Alonso, after the arrival of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.
Alexander-Arnold has signed a six-year deal at Madrid.
Liverpool quickly replaced Alexander-Arnold with Jeremie Frimpong, who was an integral player for new Madrid boss Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.
Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool with 354 appearances in all competitions, having played a key role in two Premier League title triumphs and the Reds' 2019 UEFA Champions League success.
No other defender in Premier League history has provided as many assists in the competition as Alexander-Arnold (64).
He has recorded 82 goal contributions in the Premier League, trailing only Leighton Baines (85) among defenders.
Madrid finished second in LaLiga this season, failing to win any of the domestic trophies on offer while also losing to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
It faces Al-Hilal, Pachuca and Salzburg in its group matches at the FIFA Club World Cup.
